Match the assessment to the funding purpose
Eligibility for Islamic finance in India depends on the provider, the applicant and the contract. For repayable finance, prepare evidence of sustainable income, existing commitments and the cash available after essential spending. A self-employed applicant may need business records rather than a salary slip. RBI's digital-lending directions require regulated lenders to assess creditworthiness, so an app's religious branding does not remove that assessment. Charitable assistance follows a different decision: the beneficiary's need and the fund's rules matter, including zakat eligibility where applicable. No advertised label establishes automatic approval for someone with repayment difficulties.
Understand guarantees and asset security
If a provider asks for a guarantor or collateral, clarify the legal commitment before accepting. Identify the asset owner, valuation method, custody arrangements, release conditions and consequences of default. A guarantor should receive the agreement and understand when payment may be demanded. RBI's responsible-conduct rules address matters including gold-backed lending and the return of property documents for covered NBFC transactions, but their scope must be checked for the institution concerned. Compare the proposed obligation with your actual ability to repay, and avoid offering an essential asset merely because a secured application appears easier to obtain.
